Application of sapphire crystal in medical field


Today, sapphire micro scalpels are produced in Switzerland, China, Ukraine, and the United States. Regular scalpels and sapphire micro scalpels are produced in Ukraine.


The transparency of the sapphire scalpel blade enables a unique surgical procedure consisting of directing a single-mode laser beam through the blade through a flexible optical fiber to the cutting area (Figure 1.28).


In addition to the treatment, treatment, effects (sterilization, painless, anti-inflammatory, anti-edema, immune correct, allergy-reducing effects) and better visual effects at the edge of the blade, This scalpel has another important advantage. It enables simultaneous illumination and determination of the correct location of capillaries, meridians, and other anatomical structures, both in the cutting area and within the range of blade advancement, as well as more effective control of the depth of cut. Clinical results prove that compared with traditional surgical instruments, sapphire tools shorten the operation time, speed up the repair process, reduce the recovery period and limit the probability of infection. This provides a better clinical effect on the recovery of Shen meridian, lymph and other functions. Sapphire applications in medical devices. Sapphire is chemically purer and more inert than most structural materials. Laser surgery: Nd:YAG‐ and Er:YAG‐ based instruments, laser IR scalpels (conical sapphire contact tip for dissection, hemispherical tip for evaporation and tissue coagulation in contact with light guide windows cylindrical tip end).


Equipment for obtaining high-purity medical preparations (crucibles, test tubes, tubing, reactors).


The fields of application of sapphire are constantly expanding. For example: the concept of "Sapphire Room" should be mentioned. A medical project has recently been proposed (but not yet implemented), dedicated to creating a special room clad in artificial or natural sapphire. Medical rooms that generate electromagnetic fields are known in different configurations depending on the enclosed space.
